New York City and Design. A natural, spontaneous combination that has grown into a concrete project, NYCxDesign, through a community of purpose focused on experimentation and creative innovation

Pure energy. This is what defines New York. It is not a city, but a ‘state of being’. It pervades you with its vibrant vitality, with the irrepressible emotional charge released by its every element, whether cultural or anthropological, architecture or landscape. Its palpable, contagious frenzy originates in a tendency towards contamination, experimentalism and openness towards any form of innovation. Its character finds correspondence and common purpose with the highest form of creativity that defines design, which has found fertile ground here to shape its most varied expressions, reunited once a year under the name of NYCxDesign. By its very nature, the city lends itself to hosting a circuit of events (over 500) that celebrate global design, mainly distributed in its five districts, from 3 to 24 May. Created in 2013, by the New York City Economic Development Corporation with the support of the New York City Council, the event reflects the same dynamism and cosmopolitanism of the location that hosts it: exhibitions, installations, trade shows, talks and openings of studios and showrooms enliven the three weeks of the show, attracting the public and brands from all over the world.

The new edition features many new additions, from the Times Square Hub which hosts the Design Pavilion and Market, to the Seaport Culture District, which will be the location of the new 10 Corso Como store, to the Tribeca Design District. It also sees the debut of the spring edition of TEFAF New York, dedicated to modern and contemporary art and to 20th century design. Do not miss WantedDesign (Manhattan and Brooklyn), CollectiveDesign (3-7 May, Skylight Clarkson Square), BKLYN Designs (5-7 May, Brooklyn Expo Center), Frieze Art Fair (5-7 May, Randall’s Island) and the ICFF exhibition event at the Jacob K. Javits Center, which gathers over 800 international brands of furniture, lighting, home decoration and finishes.

For a truly Italian experience, be sure to visit the Soho Design District (represented by a collective at ICFF) with its series of colorful displays that exhibit new products by Italian brands.
