On Tuesday, November 7, the ceremony of the 60th edition of the MAD Visionaries! unfolded in the picturesque atmosphere of the Downtown Cipriani of New York. Each year the gala celebrates 5 individuals who have distinguished in the world for their design and dexterity.
And among them an Italian name, Barnaba Fornasetti, representing the second generation of the homonymous company that has embraced creative and whimsical decor for over a century, to the point of creating a stereotypical element.
The "Folie Pratique", the journey between irony and imagination is the synthesis of Fornasetti’s philosophy, was transmitted with unconventional spirit from the father Piero to the son Barnaba.
MAD Ball chooses this accomplished and innovative figure and welcomes him in a range of recipients that includes personalities who have distinguished themselves for their actions: Madeleine K. Albright, former US Secretary of State, collector and philanthropist Jorge M. Pérez, artist and civil rights activist Faith Ringgold and multimedia creator Sterling Ruby.
For over twenty years, MAD Ball has identified, recognized and rewarded the so-called "visionaries" in the fields of art, design, business and philanthropy, a way of carrying out the mission of the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) by celebrating innovation and excellence in all creative disciplines. The proceeds of the event are invested in the development of the MAD and its projects.
"Each of our awards reflects our constant commitment to seeking innovative ideas that involve and transform contemporary craftsmanship," said Michele Cohen, Director of MAD.
